Northwest Timber Limited provide a full range of timber services to the Public, Wholesale and Biomass Industry.

We have two depots based at Moffat and Ecclefechan. At our head office premises at Ecclefechan we produce biomass wood fuel as well as we offering a unique pallet service where we can manufacture to any specification required. We are registered as part of the Biomass Suppliers list (BSL) where we supply premium grade and renewable heat incentive (RHI) compliant woodchip and firewood logs.

We offer a design and installation for wood fuel heating systems. We can help with the install and the management of the perfect heating system ensuring reduced fuel bills and lowering the carbon emissions for each, domestic and non domestic customer.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

Logs are harvested from sustainable forests stock

They are chipped to the required size G30 /G50

The chippings are dried to 20-30% moisture content. The containers driers are heated by our own biomass boilers

Chips are taken in their container for deliveries across the UK

And we also use them in our boilers for heating

CO2 emissions are considerably reduced in comparison to burning fossil fuels

INDIVIDUALLY DESIGNED SOLUTIONS …

DESIGN & INSTALLATION

First Contact

We typically begin our engagements with an initial discussion about the nature of your enquiry and gain an understanding of what you would like to achieve. At this stage we can offer initial advice regarding RHI criteria/ income, fuel cost savings and typical costs etc.

The Next Step

The next step is for us to arrange a site visit to evaluate the Biomass options in more detail and assess the suitability of the site for Biomass. Following this step if appropriate we will provide a quotation including detailed information regarding likely income/ savings that would apply.

Planning

Including a detailed design of the installation including heat load calculations (where applicable), schematics, itemised components and hydraulic design for the boiler and associated tanks etc.

Installation & Commissioning

The installation will be planned carefully. Our engineers are biomass trained and can work with local installers/your plumber whilst providing technical advice and final testing/commissioning of the system. we offer advice on all aspects of wood heating systems such as what type of system would be most suitable for you, flue requirements, heating control, the general running costs, fuel options (wood pellet, wood chip, log etc), RHI criteria/ likely returns.

WOODCHIP

Northwest Timber Limited is one of the leading woodchip specialists in Scotland. We supply woodchip to sites up and down the country.

We size woodchip to individual customer requirements – G30 and G50 are the most commonly requested.

Our woodchip is sourced locally from sustainable forestry – we support the local economy It is very high quality woodchip – our woodchip is forced dried so the moisture levels are beleow 30%. This ensures excellent boiler efficiency.

Clean woodchip – we use virgin timber rather than old wood. This increases the efficiency of your boiler and reduces servicing requirements.

Chipping and delivery capacity – we have the equipment and delivery capacity to chip and deliver on a large scale. This leads to very keen prices for all sizes of order.

LOGS FOR BIOMASS BOILERS

Due to the recent increase in the installation and use of biomass boilers we process biomass firewood log aimed directly at customers with biomass boilers who are receiving either the commercial or domestic RHI tariffs.

Our biomass logs are softwood logs cut to a length of 50cm making them manageable and easy to lift but also large enough that it is practical to stack them into a boiler with a large burning chamber. These logs will be force dried down to below 20% moisture, we have found from our own experience that drying enough wood for a biomass boiler naturally requires very large stockpiles of split logs sitting for up to a year preferably undercover. This is not only inconvenient because it takes up a large amount of space but also poses the problem of how to store these logs to ensure they dry efficiently in that time.

Our logs are forced dried in our drying containers. Once they are dried the can be picked up by our lorry via the hook loading system and delivered to the customer. This minimalizes the handling of the product. There is no minimum order we can deliver these logs nationwide and we can provide haulage if required or for more local customers we are happy to have you come and pick up logs as an when you need them.

For routine maintenance or any problems which may occur with your system, Northwest Timber Limited will be happy to send out one of our fully trained service engineers to assist.

Fantastic! The two men who delivered my wood went out of their way to get it through my gate – which was a bit too narrow. They just got on with it, and eventually managed to get it through – and they were so lovely about it! Thank you – I will definitely be getting my wood from you again!
